The National Community Center for Blind people "Louis Braille 1928" was founded in 1928. Today the library is funded by Stolichna Municipality and relies on donations and sponsors.
Activities:
- The community center has created the National Braille Library. It introduces a new technology for Braille printing and publishing and is the only publisher in Bulgaria of art and literature in Braille.
- Promote education and culture of blind people.
- Provides Braille, electronic books, carries out consultations of blind people with PCs.
- Encourage creative activity of blind authors, artistic collectives, groups of folklore, instrumental performances and artistic speech.
- Governs contacts and meetings with scientists, writers, artists.
- Maintains relations with state and public institutions and organizations in the country and abroad.
- Doing co-operations with similar libraries for the blind in Europe.
- Apply modern technologies in the field of print and braille access to information and monitor trends in this area. Organizes courses for this purpose.
"Louis Braille 1928" was awarded the State Prize "Cyril and Methodius" I-st degree
